This session explores the lived experience of opening and operating a brick-and-mortar gym as fat-bodied business owners, with size inclusivity at the heart of the mission. Christina Malone and William Lay will share the personal and professional challenges they’ve encountered, as well as the opportunities they’ve embraced, in building a fitness space that centers fat bodies, both in leadership and in community.
They’ll speak to their individual histories and how those experiences shaped their decision to open a gym rooted in care, connection, and strength. Attendees will gain insight into what it means to lead as fat-bodied professionals, support diverse client experiences, and stay grounded in continued learning and growth, both as coaches and community leaders.
Topics and takeaways include:
- How to adapt and coach the core powerlifting lifts (squat, bench, deadlift) for different body types, with an emphasis on fat bodies
- Understanding the range of fat-bodied experiences—even as a fat coach—and how to build trust with clients whose experiences may differ from your own
