At this year’s BPFA FitPro Summit, we’re diving into the kinds of conversations that don’t happen enough in the fitness world—and postpartum recovery is at the top of that list.
We sat down with Megan Gallagher (she/her), a certified personal trainer and advocate for postpartum care, to talk about her upcoming session:
“Reclaiming Your Strength After Birth: Core Restoration for an Active Postpartum Recovery.”

Why This Session Matters
In the U.S., postpartum support is often limited to a six-week checkup and vague restrictions (“Don’t lift anything over 5 lbs”)—even when you’re already lifting a 10-pound baby every day. Megan is working to change that.
In our chat, she shares:
- Why a c-section is major surgery—and why we should treat it that way.
- How breath work and pelvic floor training can support recovery from the inside out.
- Why recovery isn’t linear, and why six weeks isn’t enough.
- How fitness professionals can create more inclusive, supportive spaces for new parents.
Megan’s session isn’t just about postpartum anatomy—it’s about practical, empathetic coaching that helps people reconnect with their bodies, regain confidence, and return to movement in sustainable, affirming ways.
What You’ll Walk Away With
Attendees of this session will learn:
- Evidence-based core recovery techniques and strategies
- How to support clients recovering from c-sections or vaginal births
- Ways to modify classes or 1:1 sessions for postpartum clients
- How to recognize and refer out for issues like diastasis recti
Whether you’re coaching group classes or working one-on-one, this session will help you better understand the full experience of postpartum recovery—so you can meet clients where they are and help them feel strong again.
Why Megan Does This Work
Megan’s journey into postpartum fitness started with her own lived experience. After giving birth to her second son via emergency c-section, she faced a long, unsupported road to recovery—despite being a trained fitness professional herself. Now, she works to fill the gaps she once experienced, empowering both clients and coaches to do better.
She’s also involved in advocacy work with organizations like Chamber of Mothers, helping push for systemic change in areas like paid leave and childcare access.
“We need people who are actually trained to help people become parents—not just tell them to bounce back.”
Don’t Miss This Session at the BPFA Summit
If you work with people in bodies, you work with people who have been pregnant—or might be someday. Megan’s session is a must-attend for anyone who wants to provide inclusive, evidence-based support to postpartum clients.
